Gweneth Howard Mahoney, Barbara and Bob Howard's second child, has written a book, aimed primarily at early teen girls, about her grandmother and grandaunt's experience immigrating to the United States in 1909. The illustrations are by Gwen's sister, Betsy Howard Carnes. The story is a fictionalized account, based on family lore and fact, of the journey and the hopes and dreams of Winifred Evelyn Weir and her older sister Emily Weir from Northern Ireland, to Stamford, Connecticut. The narrative concludes (appropriately!) with the birth of Evelyn's son, Bobby.
